A Free Co-op Survivors Game in Your Browser

Horde Survivors is a free co-op survivors game you play online in your browser: one endless run shared by everyone in the room, waves of fantasy monsters that keep scaling until the whole party falls, and weapons that attack on their own so your full attention goes to not getting surrounded. A run starts the moment you do, alone or with up to 100 players on the same map, and there is nothing to install and no signup needed to jump in.

What makes it different from the rest of the genre is that the run itself is shared. Your teammates are not ghosts on a scoreboard. They fight beside you, their XP gems count for you when you stand near them, and when you go down they are the reason you get back up.

Multiplayer Horde Survival with Friends

Make a room and send the invite link. Friends join from any modern browser, phone or desktop, and they can join a run that is already going: a late joiner spawns next to a living teammate at a level scaled to the party, ready to fight within seconds. Runs are tuned to feel best at around ten players, and the room ceiling is 100.

Every hero on the field is a real person. There are no bots in Horde Survivors, so a solo run really is you against the horde, and it pays out slightly less than fighting alongside other people. Going down is not the end either: a downed hero crawls for up to 60 seconds, and any teammate who stands beside you for 3 seconds picks you back up at half health. If nobody reaches you, you spectate or rejoin the same run as any hero you own, starting at a catch-up level with that hero's starting weapon. The run ends the moment nobody is left standing, so in a solo run your first fall is the end.

Three Maps, Three Difficulties

The host picks the room's difficulty before the run. Normal is the baseline. Hard multiplies monster health and damage by 1.4 and Ember earnings by 1.25. Nightmare doubles monster health and damage and multiplies Embers by 1.5. The host also sets how many players the room admits, up to the ceiling of 100.

Maps are a second difficulty dial on top of that. The Forest is the baseline, a wide field with nowhere to hide and no walls to pin the horde against, where wolves and treants roam thickest. The Crypt runs monsters at 1.25× strength and Embers at 1.15×, and its spawns lean hard into the restless dead: undead, wisps, gargoyles, living armor, and prowling mimics. The Volcano is the hardest stage at 1.5× monsters and 1.3× Embers, ruled by drakes and cyclopes. Both dials stack, so a Nightmare Volcano run triples monster strength.

The harder stages are earned, not given. Surviving 15 minutes unlocks the Crypt, standing at an Elder Lich kill unlocks the Volcano, and surviving 30 minutes unlocks Nightmare. The room host's unlocks decide what the room can play, so one veteran friend opens the hard stages for everyone.

How to Play Horde Survivors

You only control movement: WASD or arrow keys on desktop, a joystick on touch screens. Everything else is automatic. Your weapons fire on their own cooldowns, dead monsters drop XP gems, and each level up pauses to offer you a pick of one card from three. A card is either a new weapon, a new passive, or a rank up for something you already carry.

Your build has four weapon slots and four passive slots, and every weapon and passive ranks from 1 to 5. Every player starts with seven weapons to find: Sword Sweep, Arrow Volley, Magic Bolt, Hammer Slam, Frost Nova, Holy Aura, and the Wolf Companion, a spirit wolf that hunts the biggest thing on the field. Rank 5 is where each weapon gets its signature trick. The sword starts swinging behind you as well, the hammer stuns everything it knocks back, the aura begins healing you, and the wolf becomes two wolves. The five starting passives (Swift Boots, Whetstone, Heart Amulet, Lodestone, Hourglass) push speed, damage, health, pickup range, and attack rate.

Achievements grow that pool. Four more weapons are earned by playing: the Boomerang Axe (fell 25 big monsters in a run), the chaining Storm Coil (1,500 kills in a run), the Spirit Bees (squash 300 slimes or sporelings), and the horde-shoving Warhorn (bring down all three bosses in one run). Four more passives are earned the same way, for tanking damage, hoarding Embers, being revived, and hunting elites. Once unlocked, they join your level-up choices in every future run.

Past evolutions sit the unions: take two matching weapons to max rank and a level-up can offer their merge. Sword Sweep and Hammer Slam become the Sunderguard, Arrow Volley and Magic Bolt become the Spellstorm, Frost Nova and Holy Aura become the Aurora. A union is stronger than either parent and frees up a weapon slot, which is the real prize: a fifth weapon in a four-slot build.

The battlefield itself pays out too. Barrels, burial vases, and glowing geodes (one kind per map) stand in your path; smash them for XP gems, Embers, and sometimes a floor drop: a roast feast that heals a third of your health, a magnet that vacuums every XP gem on the field for the whole party, or a treasure chest left behind by slain elites that banks you a free level-up choice.

Rank 5 is not the ceiling. Every weapon has an evolution, unlocked by pairing it with the right passive, the way item combos work in Vampire Survivors. Max out a weapon while carrying its partner passive and your next level ups can offer the evolved form: Sword Sweep with a Whetstone becomes Bladestorm, a full circle of steel, Arrow Volley with a Lodestone becomes Arrowstorm's ten-arrow spread, Hammer Slam with a Heart Amulet becomes the stunning Earthshatter, Frost Nova with Swift Boots becomes Absolute Zero, Magic Bolt with an Hourglass becomes Arcane Tempest, Holy Aura with a Heart Amulet becomes the healing Sanctuary, and the Wolf Companion with Swift Boots becomes a four-wolf Wolf Pack.

The horde has a schedule. New monster types join the hunt at fixed minutes, from slime floods and mushroom sporelings up through treasure-chest mimics, haunted armor, cyclopes, and drakes. Glowing elites start appearing from minute 5, and a boss walks in every ten minutes, cycling through the Orc Warlord, the Elder Lich, and the Ancient Dragon. From minute 40 the bosses come every five minutes instead, each stronger than the last, so a deep run ends in a battle you will remember rather than a slow grind down:

Embers and Permanent Upgrades

Embers are the run currency that outlives the run. Elite kills pay a handful to everyone fighting nearby, boss kills pay more, every active minute adds a trickle that grows the longer you last, and some level-up cards offer a Supply Cache of Embers instead of an upgrade.

Between runs, the Upgrades tab turns Embers into permanent power across eight tracks: Vitality (max health), Might (damage), Iron Skin (armor), Swiftness (speed), Magnet (pickup range), Wisdom (faster XP), Rally (faster revives and a slower bleed-out), and Alacrity (faster weapons). Each track has five ranks with prices that roughly double every step, and maxing the entire board costs about 30,340 Embers, a long-haul project that makes every run feel like progress.

Horde Survivors Strategy

Move in wide circles, not straight lines. The horde always walks at you, so circling herds it into one trailing clump your arc weapons can chew through, while running straight just finds you fresh monsters on all sides. Your hero faces the way you last moved, and the Sword Sweep only cuts in front of you until rank 5, so keep the clump ahead of you, not behind.

Rank your starting weapon before collecting new ones. Through your first five levels the game deliberately offers your starting weapon's rank ups more often, and a rank 3 weapon clears the early minutes faster than three rank 1 weapons that all fire slowly.

Cover both distances. A close-in weapon (Sword Sweep, Hammer Slam, Holy Aura) handles what reaches you, and a reaching weapon (Arrow Volley, Magic Bolt, Wolf Companion) thins what is still coming. Frost Nova is the glue: its ring slows everything it touches by up to half, which turns a wolf pack sprinting at you into a wall you can walk away from.

Stay near your team. Gems picked up close to you feed your XP too, revive range only matters if someone is in it, and the game spawns fewer monsters per player when players cluster, so a tight group faces a thinner horde per head than five soloists spread across the map. Before you try Nightmare, put Embers into Rally and Vitality: revives are the whole difficulty.

Leaderboards, Achievements, and Heroes

Every run posts two scores to the Horde Survivors leaderboards, Longest Run and Monsters Slain, ranked on every timeframe from a single day up to all time. The 28 Horde Survivors achievements mark the moments worth bragging about, like Warlord's Bane, Lich Slayer, and Dragon's Bane for standing at each boss kill, Full Cycle for all three in one run, Double Evolution for evolving two weapons in a run, Packed House for surviving 20 minutes with ten players alive, Weapons Only for lasting 30 minutes with no passives at all, and Full Arsenal, the top trophy, for taking a full build of four weapons and four passives all to max rank in a single run. Nearly half of them unlock something you then play with: a map, a difficulty, a weapon, or a passive.

Leveling up the game unlocks the roster of seven Horde Survivors heroes. Everyone starts as the Human Knight, a steady sword-carrier. The Elf Ranger (level 5) is faster and starts with Arrow Volley, the Dwarf Warrior (level 15) trades speed for armor and a hammer, and the Gnome Wizard (level 30) is fragile but casts quicker and levels faster than anyone else. The late roster is where the stranger heroes live: the Dwarf Runepriest (level 50) walks into battle inside a burning Holy Aura, the Dryad Beastcaller (level 60) starts every run with her spirit wolf already hunting, and the Frostheart Yeti (level 70) is a huge, cheerful wall of muscle who opens with Frost Nova.

Horde Survivors vs Vampire Survivors

Vampire Survivors invented this genre's modern shape in 2022, a lineage documented on Wikipedia's Vampire Survivors page, and players have since named the style bullet heaven: a bullet hell where you are the one filling the screen. Horde Survivors is Foony's browser-native take on that idea, with its own high-fantasy monster roster in place of gothic castles.

The real difference is scale and togetherness. Vampire Survivors' official co-op supports up to four players, per poncle's own co-op FAQ. A Horde Survivors run holds a whole room, lets strangers and friends drop in mid-run, and builds revives, shared XP, and catch-up levels into the core rules, because the run is designed to be survived together. If you have been hunting games like Vampire Survivors that need no download and no console, this is the one built for playing with other people.

Want monster chaos in shorter, sharper doses? Foony Dinomight swaps the endless horde for explosive dino-vs-dino rounds that start just as fast from a shared room link.

Ember
