In American Checkers (the default on Foony Checkers), regular pieces jump diagonally forward over an adjacent opponent piece into an empty square beyond, and chain into additional jumps if the same piece can keep capturing. Kings jump diagonally in any direction, including backward. Jumping is mandatory whenever it is available. In flying-king variants like International, Russian, Brazilian, or Canadian Draughts, kings move and capture across multiple empty squares in a single diagonal line.

Tournament Checkers uses a 40-move rule: if 40 consecutive moves pass without a capture or a king promotion, the game is declared a draw. Foony Checkers enforces a similar stalemate threshold via the threefold-repetition setting (a position repeating three times ends the game in a draw) so games cannot loop forever.

Strong opening moves on the standard 8×8 board push a center piece toward the middle without creating an immediate hanging capture. The classic 11-15 opening (sometimes called the Old Faithful) advances a center piece and is studied at every serious level. Foony Checkers's guide tooltips suggest a legal move when you are stuck, and you can drill openings against the bot tiers as long as you want without a clock.

Checkers and Chess are both 2-player diagonal-board games, but Checkers uses 24 identical pieces that move only on the dark squares and capture by jumping, while Chess uses 32 pieces of six different types that move on every square and capture by displacement.
