Changelogs

September Update

Seven weeks of work since the August update. Here's what's new.

New games

  • Foonle is a multiplayer word guessing game. The host picks a word length from 4 to 11 letters.
  • Killer Sudoku is a new Sudoku option. The grid is split into cages, and each cage shows the total its numbers have to add up to.
  • Hearts, Euchre, and Foony Shooter are in early access for Supporters.
  • Foonopoly, Snooker, and Breakout are now open to everyone.

Daily puzzles

  • The Foonle Daily has one word a day, the same word for everyone. Solving it gets you a reward, with a 1 in 200 chance of the Letter Tiles Frame. Supporters can play past days.
  • The Sudoku Daily has four puzzles a day, one for each difficulty.
  • Both Dailies have their own achievements and cosmetics to collect.

Marketplace and shop

  • On the new Marketplace, you can buy and sell gems for coins with other players. There's a link to it in the Shop.
  • Items priced in coins can be bought with gems too.
  • 11 new emotes, and 76 new cosmetics in the shop.

Explore and Grandma Cookie

  • The new Explore page is a map of Foony's places, like the Bank, the Giving Tree, the Gallery, and Grandma Cookie's House.
  • Grandma Cookie steps out for an hour, twice a day. While she's out, you can grab from her cookie jar for cookie skins, coins, gems, and more. Every grab levels up your Thieving skill.
  • Feed the Cookie Muncher with other players. When it's full, Grandma Cookie runs off to chase it, and you get an extra grab at the jar.
  • Thieving achievements reward a Thief's Pouch, which opens into 200 XP in a game you pick.
  • You can rename your bank by clicking its name.

Birthdays

  • On your birthday, games give double XP and coins, bank interest is tripled, random events come more often, and you get a Birthday Present to open. The bonuses need an account at least 30 days old.
  • Your friends see a cake next to your name for the day.
  • If your account has no birthday on file, like most Google sign-ups, you can set it once in Settings.

Chess and checkers

  • A new layout, with each player's bar at the edge of the board and the moves beside or under it.
  • New Undo and Offer draw buttons. The other player has to accept. Four in a Row and Go have Undo too.
  • Flip the board, step through moves with the arrow keys, or turn on zen mode to hide everything but the board, clocks, and moves.
  • The clock shows tenths of a second and turns red when time is low.
  • Chess hosts can add a time increment to each move.
  • A premoved pawn promotes to a queen.
  • A chess draw keeps your win streak. Draws in chess, checkers, Hearts, and Spades are worth more than a loss and less than a win.
  • The rooms list shows live chess and checkers boards.

Dino-Might

  • New Boss Battle mode, where everyone teams up against giant bosses. Hosts can also turn on Boss Egg in a normal game, with up to 10 bosses.
  • Board Gadgets add streams, tunnels, traps, buttons, switches, and doors to the map.
  • New power-ups: Kick, Remote Bomb, Pierce Bomb, Power Glove, Invisibility, and Virus. Hosts pick which Virus effects are on.
  • Map makers can place gadgets, a boss spawn, and the new power-ups.
  • Classic Dino-Might is still the default. All of the new things are host options.

Other games

  • Sudoku has a new Expert difficulty.
  • Ludo plays 5 to 10 players on new boards, with pawns in six more colors. New options: Unlimited Sixes and Always Roll Again on 6.
  • Four in a Row hosts can pick any board size, up to 100,000 by 100,000.
  • In Paint Job, guessers can send a heart, a laugh, or a wow while someone draws. After the last turn, everyone votes for the best drawing, and the winner gets 100 bonus points.
  • Pop-a-Word has a livelier look, with floating points, streaks, and confetti when a word uses every letter.
  • Tic Tac Toe plays as a best-of series of rounds.
  • Snooker has a Pool Table option for playing a frame on the 7-ft pool table.
  • Hide Guide Ray gives 20% more XP in 8-ball, 9-ball, and snooker.
  • In Carrom, you can pick white or black against bots. New options: Top and Bottom Only, and Teammate Shoots Again.

Rooms, friends, and chat

  • Matchmaking has a Match with choice: anyone, registered players only, or registered players at a level and up in that game.
  • Lobbies without a host can vote to start the next game early.
  • The rooms list puts rooms with your friends at the top.
  • Messages from friends pop up in the corner of the screen. You can turn this off in Settings, and turn off game invite popups too.
  • You can hide the chat in every game.
  • The top of the room chat shows who else is in the room, players first and then spectators. The chat also says when someone starts spectating.
  • In turn-based games, the tab title says "Your turn!" and the tab icon blinks when it's your move.
  • The quizmaster is a new random event. The first player to type the answer in chat wins coins.
  • Your phone stays awake while you're in a room.
  • After a game, you can share its GIF replay from the score screen.
  • Players on partner sites can move everything to their foony.com account with a merge code.

Upgrades

  • If pool, 9-ball, or snooker looks broken on your device, turn on "Use simple graphics" in Settings to play on a 2D table.
  • If your browser loses its graphics during pool, 9-ball, or snooker, the game switches to the 2D table without restarting your shot.
  • The navbar sound control is now a speaker icon. Hover or tap it for the volume sliders.

Fixes

  • Fixed about 1 in 5 games against the chess bot ending early as "Everyone wins!".
  • Fixed threefold repetition in chess not ending the game when the position first came up right after a pawn moved two squares.
  • Fixed a rare pool bug, about 1 shot in 5,800, that ended the game early.
  • With Easy Pockets on in snooker, balls no longer slip through a gap by the middle pockets and leave the table.
  • On phones, a second finger touching the screen no longer swings your pool cue mid-shot.
  • In Draw and Guess, your line no longer jumps to another finger touching the screen.
  • In carrom, a covered queen now stays down when the other side has one man left.
  • A Breakout ball stuck bouncing between gray bricks and walls now comes back to your paddle after 15 seconds, and you don't lose a life.
  • Fixed Yacht crashing when everyone rolls at the same time and a player who joined mid-game leaves.
  • If everyone else leaves and you keep playing against bots, you no longer get moved to spectator for being idle.
  • Fixed guests sometimes getting "Guests are not allowed in this room" in their own Quick Play game.
  • Fixed matchmaking sometimes never finding a match because of old entries left in the queue.
  • Joining a game that already started no longer puts you in a room with someone you muted.
  • Fixed accepting an invite while in a room sending you to the game page instead of the new room.
  • Players with the same score now share the same place on the score screen.
  • Fixed item and game pictures sometimes staying blank while you scroll.
  • Game pages on phones and small laptops no longer jump when they finish loading.
  • Logging in with Google from the Log In tab no longer leaves your guest coins, XP, and items behind, and the Choose a Username box no longer flashes.
  • Players who never verified their email can now reset their password.
  • Fixed dead ends in sign-up and login. For example, Sign Up no longer says your username is taken after the account was made but the email failed to send.

Coming soon

  • Halloween runs from October 5 to November 4, with Halloween Town, goodie bags, and the Candy Exchange.
